Privacy policy

Your privacy matters to us. In this privacy policy you can read which data TourGuide processes, why we do so and which rights you have. We collect no more than the app needs to work.

1. Who are we?

TourGuide is an app by [company name], based in [city], registered with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce under number [registration number]. We are responsible for processing your personal data as described in this policy. Questions? Email us at hallo@tourguide.app.

2. Which data do we process?

Without an account

• Your location, only if you allow it and only while you use the app, to show places nearby. We do not store this location.
• Your preferences, such as language, appearance and interests. These stay on your own device.

With an account

• Account details that you share through Sign in with Apple or Google: your name, your email address (with Apple possibly a private relay address) and a user id.
• Your tours: the starting point (rounded to about 100 metres), your interests, the chosen distance and the language of the tour.
• Your device for notifications: a push token, the platform (iOS or Android) and the app language, so we can notify you when your tour is ready.

3. Why do we process this data?

• To create, save and show your tours (performance of the agreement).
• To notify you when your tour is ready (performance of the agreement).
• To show places nearby based on your location (consent).
• To prevent abuse and keep the app secure (legitimate interest).

4. Who do we share data with?

We never sell your data. We work with a number of services that help us run the app:

• Google Firebase: sign-in, storage of tours and audio, and the servers that create tours (in the EU).
• Apple and Google: sign-in and delivering notifications.
• Expo: sending push notifications.
• Mapbox: maps, walking routes and searching for cities.
• OpenAI: choosing stops and writing the stories. We only send information about places, no data that can be traced back to you.
• ElevenLabs: narrating the stories. We only send the text of the story.
• Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons: information and photos of places. These texts and photos fall under their own open licences; the attribution is shown in the app.

Where needed, we have made agreements with these parties about protecting your data. If data is processed outside the European Economic Area, this is done with appropriate safeguards, such as the standard contractual clauses of the European Commission.

5. How long do we keep your data?

We keep account details for as long as your account exists. Tours can be used for up to two years. We delete push tokens when you sign out or when your device can no longer receive notifications.

6. Your rights

You have the right to access, correct or delete your data, and to object to its processing. Want your account and data deleted? Send an email to hallo@tourguide.app. We will respond within a month. If you disagree with how we handle your data, you can file a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).

7. Security

We take appropriate measures to protect your data. Only you can open your own tours and audio, and the connection to our servers is always encrypted.

8. Changes

We may update this privacy policy when the app changes. The latest version is always on this page. We will let you know in the app about major changes.
